šļøThis week: bold of me to say āthis weekā when Iāve been radio silent for months. aaaAnyway, hereās some of the highlights from that time.
š¼Tracklist:
IRENE - Biggest Fan:
This whole album, I think, was fantastic, but I canāt put a whole album on this playlist. That would be crazyā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦.įµŹ°įµįµŹ·įµįµĖ”įµįµįµį¶Ź³įµį¶»Źø. This is Ireneās sophomore album and in my opinion it falls very in line with her debut album. Itās a good mix of r&b inspired and a little bit trance-y. Outside of the title track, I highly recommend Black Halo and Wasteland.
BILLLIE - the collective soul and unconcious: chapter two:
WORK: I do agree that this should have been the title track. Not because I donāt like ZAP, but I think after a year of no group release, this is a better balance of Billlieās concept switching and whatās on trend that would get them back in the kpop public eye. ZAP is lore-heavy1, which I like, but this is straight up a club bop.
SOUPASTA: Iāve spoken before about my love of made up words2. This is a great one because it can slot onto my ākpop is weirdly into weird foodā playlist, while also feeling like more of a spiritual successor to jopping. Soupastaās are for sure in the club joppinā it up.
LEE CHAEYEON - Till I Die:
No Tears On The Dancefloor: Very glad to see Chaeyeon back. She went on quite the hiatus for health reasons and then also her management team sucked or something, it was like, a double whammy if I remember correctly. Chaeyeon has a deceptively cohesive sound, which is like twee-adjacent. People get distracted by her absolutely outrageous dance breaks but, this is not a departure, like, get her in the booth with feist a little bit lowkey.
ILLLIT - MAMIHLAPINATAPAI:
Itās Me: And this is where I disagree with the public. āoh this doesnāt sound like illit, oh this is too differentā Respectfully, do you only listen to title tracks? I mean even then, this is just do the dance up a notch and a step to the left. Illit loves a repeating chorus and this one is just a little more octane. This is one hundred percent theyāre manic little vibe. Tho I will give you the choreo is wack.
NMIXX - Heavy Serenade:
IDESERVEIT: Iāve been wandering around the house chanting āi d e s e r v e i t i deser-erve i-itā like itās a religious mantra, this song is so goddamn catchy.
aespa - LEMONADE3:
The whole WDA thing: Because I am an adult who can admit when they were wrong, Iām taking this comeback as an opportunity to say: Iāve learned more about GDragon and Iād like to retract my previous statement about him being more respectful to black culture than Blackpink. Thatās my bad. And itās also a reason WDA is not on here. I still liked Power but I wonāt be listening to it anymore, and it makes me bummed that aespa didnāt include a members only version of WDA. Because a) the above gdragon sucks and b) he didnt add much to the song anyway š¬.
Switchblade (feat. Ty Dolla $ign): This on the other hand? Fantastic, showstopping, how you use a feature. Although, are we perhaps picking up on a theme? Itās always so damning to see them laid out like this and itās like āah, yes, you wanted to turn your brain off this week, so itās all edm inspired dance music coolcoolcoolcoolnodoubtnodoubt.ā
what do you mean there was no Billlie Love? What do you mean whatdoyoumean?
